Jeff Skinner, having run his own large construction company since 1972 working for local authorities, Housing associations and blue chip companies, now specialises solely in top quality loft conversions for the discerning client in the Enfield and North London areas only.
Having been a developer constructing top quality homes we are probably one of the few loft conversion companies locally to be full members of the NHBC.
With over 35 years construction experience behind us we are able to advise and deal with all the issues that concern most clients, things such as:

Most loft conversions in our area are carried out on 1930 semi-detached or terrace houses, they are normally one large bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and this is accessed from the first floor landing by way of a new timber staircase. Obviously this is not the only type of loft conversion we do and we are happy to hear from anyone with an unusual situation that needs a solution. Our FREE feasibility study will enable us to carry out a proper site inspection, assess the client’s needs and requirements and come up with a workable scheme.
An estimate of works required is then prepared, this is done in great detail and everything is included, there is very rarely a situation when we have not included everything thing the client wants.
The next stage is for us to arrange for our architect to call you and arrange a site meeting to discuss your requirements and properly measure the building. He will then produce clear working drawings showing all dimensions and materials to be used, all of which will comply with current building standards and regulations. The drawings are produced using the very latest CAD system and are supremely accurate and very easy to understand, we will go through things with you carefully and only once you are happy we will submit the drawings to the local authority for checking and compliance with current building regulations. We will see this process through on your behalf and there will be no reason at all for you to have to contact anyone or deal with anyone else but us.
Once the plans are approved and the start date is near we will contact you to arrange for a scaffold to be erected around your building for us to work from and gain access to the loft, it will always be our intention to use the scaffold rather than the main house for entry into the loft working area, thereby keeping disruption, inconvenience and dust to a minimum.
On the start date we arrange to get electricity into the loft and will have materials etc delivered to site. These are then all craned up onto the scaffold together with the steel supporting beams leaving the road as free as possible for parking. We will also arrange for a skip to be placed into the road for our use only and all necessary consents we shall obtain and be responsible for.
The loft is then cleared out and the work starts the sequence is usually like this:
- Steel beams inserted
- Floor beams and floor coverings
- Dormer roof and walla erected
- Roof works
- Insuation fitted
- Windows fitted
- Plastering works
- Plumbing and electrical works
- Carpentry second fixing of doors etc
- Lastly we fit the staircase so as to cause you as little disruption as possible in the house.
- Final cleaning and clearing away.
